Honeymoon Part 1
Wednesday we headed out on a tour down the great ocean road. If anyone wants to do this trip I would recomend driving yourself and taking your time to do it, maybe staying somewhere along the way and do it in 2 days. There were a few places we didn't get long enough to see everything we wanted to. This is Bells Beach.
This is Urquhart Bluff
The 12 apostles. This was amazing - freezing, but amazing!!
Loch Art Gorge. This place was beautiful. This photo is of the foam that is sprayed up from the waves pounding on the rocks so far below.
Mike went for a walk down to the beach at the bottom of the gorge.
This is where we stopped for a hot drink. I think it was port campbell. It is this tiny tiny town that was just beautiful. Freezing cold, but beautiful!!
London Bridge. This place was better than the 12 apostles, but we only stayed about 5 mins. This place was the most cold we were all week, even in the snow!! It was raining and blowing a gail. Amazing tho!
Honeymoon Part 2
So Thursday we headed off to the snow. I wouldn't recomend this trip to anyone unless you are either staying at the snow fields, or have all of your own clothes and equipment. It took us 3 hours to get there, and then over an hour to get our clothes and equipment. They were the most unhelpful and rude people there!! This was the main place to get your stuff at Mt Buller, and they really need some skills in customer service!! Anyway, after all that, Mike and I decided to just have some fun in the snow and try to make the most of the day. Which we did by making a snowman and playing like children in the snow. Snowball fights are great until you get one down the back of your neck under the snow jacket!!
Friday we got up and went for a walk up the block to Queen Victoria Markets. What a crap place. It was row after row of people selling crap!! And it wasn't even cheap! The fresh food hall - here on the left with Mike showing us the lovely produce, was a great place. I wish we something like this here to buy our fruit and vegies. The quality and prices were amazing!!
After the markets we caught the tram to St Kilda. Wow, there is a whole bunch of nothing at St Kilda!! They did have some great cake shops tho, and I made Mike stop for some morning tea!!
Friday night, off to the Storm. They smashed the Roosters. We caught the tram to Olympic Stadium. The stadium was really old, and there wasn't much leg room in the seats, but Mike was in his element. The whinger of the trip award goes to this old couple sitting in front of us, they did nothing but complain the whole night. They complained about the small space, including trying to get people sitting further down the row with more leg room to sit in their seats. These people just glared at them with a "what the?" look. Mike had spilt his coke under their seats becasue of the lack of room, and they went and got someone who worked there to come and clean the floor. When have you ever been at a sporting event when there hasn't been drink spilt on the floor!! they were lucky it wasn't beer!! Anyway the game was great and Mike loved seeing his beloved team playing at the graveyard. It got down to 7 degrees while we were there as we could see the tempature on the top of a building in the distance. We had to walk back into town after the game tho as Melbourne does not schedule any extra public transport!! How crazy is that!! So all these people had to walk over the bridge into town!!
Honeymoon Part 3
This was on Sunday as we were walking down to Regent Theatre to see Wicked. This is looking up Bourke Street along the tram tracks.
Sunday night we saw Wicked. Wow. Now don't read on if you don't want to know the storyline..... so the Wicked Witch of the West really wasn't wicked. Her mum fooled around on her Dad - the major of Munchkinland, and the guy had a strange green bottle. She was born green and was named Elphaba. She was sent to boarding school to look after her little sister who was born unable to walk. She was born early beacuse her father didn't want this baby to be born green. The father gave the mother something that i can't remember, which made her give birth early, and in doing so killed the mother. The father hated Elphaba, and only wanted the sister Nessa. Nobody liked Elphaba becasue of her skin colour. The only person that would talk to her was her sister. At school she met Galinda who later changed her named to Glinda the Good. Galinda is blonde and dumb, and had everything she wanted as she was from the upperclass - well the uplands. Elphaba and Galinda had to share a room together, and over time they grew to be friends, although it was a very strange friendship. Galinda wanted to study to be a sorceress, but Elphaba had the talent. Galinda fell in love with the heartthrob Fiyero, but he fell in love with Elphaba, but wouldn't tell anyone. Boq, a munchkin at the school was in love with Galinda, but to get rid of his affection she told him to ask out Nessa because she felt sorry for her. Nessa fell in love with Boq becasue he showed her attention. Eventually, Elphaba got to go and see the Wizard who she had always wanted to see so that she could ask him to turn her a normal colour. But the wizard really wanted to see Elphaba because she had a natual magic power, and wanted her to read the magic book that he had found. When he asked her to read something, all the monkeys grew wings and could fly. He wanted that to happen so that he could use them as spies as he was trying to take control of Oz. When Elphaba found out that he was using her, she took the book and the wizard blamed everything on her and called her a wicked witch. She had to go into hiding, as the whole of Oz thought she was evil. She went to see her sister back in munchkinland, and found out that her father had died and that Anessa had taken over. But she also found out from Boq that Nessa was a terrible major and was keeping all the munchkins prisoner. She wanted Boq to love her and he didn't so she made him her servant. She was in anger becasue she thought if her sister was so good at magic why hadn't she helped her to walk. So Elphaba read a spell and it produced two ruby slippers that while Nessa wore them she would be able to walk. But even with this, Boq would not love her, so Nessa grabbed the book and read a spell to take his heart, Elphaba tried to stop her becasue she knew that there was no undoing a spell, all she could do was put another spell on him to make him made out of tin so that he wouldn't die without a heart. Elphaba fled. At this time the Wizard (with the help of his sidekick) wanted to find and kill the wicked witch to show all of oz that they weren;t the evil ones. So they asked Glinda (who was now Glinda the good) how they could find her. Glinda told them that if they hurt her sister she would come. They thought better than this and create a tornado to kill her. When Elphaba went back to Munchkin land to see Nessa, she found Glinda morning her. Elphaba was angry that Glinda had given the girl Nessas shoes which was the only thing she had left. THe gaurds were called, and Elphaba was captured, but then the Commander of the Gaurds, Feyori helped her to escape, only to be captured himself and sent to die in the fields, but Elphaba cast a spell to make him not remember and feel the pain (turning him into a scarecrow). In the end Elphaba knew the only way to end everything was to die. So she gave dorothy the bucket of water to kill her, only she didn't as it was only the gossip which made it true that water could kill the wicked witch. she escaped and found the scarecrow who then left to live somewhere else, and noone knew that she was alive and that she was wicked, everyone except her friend Glinda. Oh and Glinda worked out in the end, that the guy Elphabas mother had an affair with, was the Wizard. Ok, so i am not good at telling stories, but this is really for me to remember what happened, and you shouldn't be reading this if you really didn't want to know!!
Melbourne Zoo. This was our last full day in Melbourne. Mike had asked if we could go, and I didn't mind, although I wasn't super excited about it, but I have to tell you it was one of the highlights of the trip!! The tram was the one right outside our hotel, and took less than 20mins to get there. I think we spent about 5 hours there.
The meerkats were Mikes favourites. THey were so cute and small.
The gorillas were amazing. This one was having fun eating the bamboo he had. There was another one that was alseep under a rock overhang, and he was huge. But he was having a good snooze and wasn't moving. The third one we saw was a little mental. He just gathered all the straw and grass around him, and would then throw it in the air and run around and scream. Then would sit back down and do it all again.
Monkeys monkeys monkeys
The elphants were HUGE!
Me being an orangutan!
